A thoughtful reply does not make it a therapist.

Claude can respond to personal writing in a warm, thoughtful way. That does not make it a therapist. There is no confidential clinical relationship, and no guarantee a reply is safe for your situation.

When people ask whether Claude can be their therapist, they usually mean three separate questions: will it remember me, is it private, and what happens if things turn urgent? Answer each one on its own.

  • Does it remember only what you expect it to remember?
  • Do you know where your messages go, and under what terms?
  • What will you do if a conversation becomes urgent?

02 / Current controls

What Claude's privacy controls do today.

As of this review, Claude offers incognito chats on consumer plans. Anthropic says these chats stay out of your history and memory, are not used for training, and are kept for 30 days by default. Anthropic also tells users to think before sharing medical or other very sensitive details.

These controls lower some risks. They do not create the confidentiality you get with a therapist, and they do not make Claude a medical service. Product rules change, so re-check the linked pages.

03 / A fair comparison

Compare the product around the model, not the tone of one reply.

A fair comparison looks at memory controls, privacy terms, whether conversations carry forward, deletion, account recovery and crisis limits. These details change, so check the provider's current pages rather than a review or one reassuring reply.

IndividuateAI is built around the memory problem: saved context you can check, a map of repeating themes, and a separate view of your relationships. It is still an AI service, not a clinician, and its privacy page says where encryption ends.

Low-stakes reflection
Use the chat to find questions or name what you feel. Treat its reading as a guess, not a fact.
A big decision
Write down what you are assuming, look for evidence against it, and talk to a person who knows your life.
Symptoms, treatment or medication
Ask a qualified health professional. Do not act on a chatbot answer.
Immediate danger or crisis
Stop the chat. Contact local emergency or crisis services and a person you trust.

04 / Safety boundary

Never use a chatbot as your only support in a crisis.

Do not rely on Claude, IndividuateAI or any AI chat as an emergency service, a suicide-prevention service or a stand-in for urgent medical care. If you might hurt yourself or someone else, contact local emergency services or a crisis line where you live.

Anthropic states that Claude is not a substitute for professional advice or medical care, and describes safeguards meant to point people toward human support. A safeguard is not a guarantee that the system will spot every dangerous situation.

05 / Source notes

Check the current terms before you share anything sensitive.

This guide quotes Anthropic's own pages and keeps them separate from our advice. We did not test how Claude handles clinical questions, and nothing here is medical advice.

06 / Questions

Common questions about Claude therapy

Is Claude a therapist?

No. Claude is a general-purpose AI assistant. It is not a licensed therapist, and talking to it does not create a clinical care relationship.

Is Claude therapy private?

It depends on the product, your account and Anthropic's current terms. Read the current privacy policy and consumer terms before sharing anything sensitive.

Can Claude help in a crisis?

Do not use Claude as your only support in a crisis. Contact local emergency services or a crisis line, and involve people who can actually help.

What is different about IndividuateAI?

IndividuateAI is built around memory you can check: saved context, a visual mind map and relationship context. It is still an AI service. It does not replace a therapist or crisis support.
